Working as part of the Product Development team, this role applies Systems Engineering skills to design and develop systems from concept and early prototypes through to commercial products for automotive, industrial and aerospace power systems applications.
A Principal Systems Engineer is an expert of the full system development life cycle and deeply understands its interactions with project plans, development phases, gate review processes and associated entry/exit criteria. Leads by example ensuring system deliverables are compliant against standards and correctly reflect the safety analysis. Regularly thinks about team practices and processes and champions improvements within the system team. Is responsible for project planning, the identification of stakeholder needs, the definition of requirements and assumptions, design optimisation considering alternatives that meet the safety and human factor needs.
As a key, leading member of the system engineering team, a successful candidate will develop and share skills to be applied to many levels of development of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cell systems, from the concept design of products to their devolution into sub-systems and hardware or software items. It will be paramount to demonstrate a deep understanding of project risks that may compromise the successful certification and release of products for high-integrity applications.
About You
Degree qualified to at least a BEng, BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or possess a relevant non-degree level qualification alongside suitable industrial experience. Typically, you will have around 10 years of relevant industrial experience post completion of your degree.
You will demonstrate a proven track record of defining and delivering systems, sub-systems or hardware / software items. You will be a creative problem solver with both technical and engineering process related issues.
It is key to us that you have a commercial mindset and the ability to work with a flexible and solutions focused approach, in an agile and fast paced environment.
You will be an enthusiastic engineer with a history of working collaboratively to nurture cross functional team relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues through mutual trust and honesty. As such, excellent interpersonal skills are vital.
You will have significant relevant industrial experience. Membership of a relevant professional body, progressing towards chartered status is advantageous, as is evidence by further professional learning in technical and/or leadership skills.
Experience with hydrogen fuel cells, electric power trains and Model Based Systems Engineering would be advantageous.
