Working as part of the Research & Product Development team, this role applies design engineering skills to the development of commercial products, for use in applications ranging from small portable power devices to motive and industrial power systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of designs and documentation detailing parts and assemblies of appropriate manufacturability against a set of customer requirements. The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Utilising CAD tools and processes in accordance with standard working practices
  • Providing technical support to internal and external product users
  • Identifying new suppliers and methodologies appropriate for development and manufacture of products
  • Controlling design documentation through change and BoM management processes
  • Check and sign-off peer derived documentation
  • You will be an experienced mechanical design engineer who wants to apply your skills from initial concept through to production, on world leading technology and cutting edge products.
  • A key element is a commercial mind-set, with the ability to work flexibly, solutions focused and in an agile and fast paced development environment. Typically holding at least 5 years of relevant industrial experience post completion of your BEng, BSc (or equivalent) degree in a relevant discipline, or possessing relevant non-degree level qualifications alongside suitable industrial experience.
  • You will have experience of applying V-model and/or other structured design process methodologies, with application of DfX principles. You will have proven ability to deliver work packages to requirements, on time and working collaboratively in a cross-functional programme team. Accomplished communication skills are vital.
  • You will be proficient in the use of a 3D parametric CAD package, SolidWorks preferred, covering modelling parts, assemblies and drafting engineering drawings. You will have experience of checking and approving mechanical engineering drawings, with knowledge of formulating plant schematics and FMEAs.
